Description: XIX Corps Map original timeline WW11Pictorial World War Action Military 33x23 , one owner 19th US ARMY CORPS ETO COMBAT HISTORY MAP POSTERTitle:XIX Corps in Action: From Siegfried Line to VictoryCollection:Persuasive Maps: PJ Mode CollectionCreator:MacMillan, T/5 Henry J.Date:1945This map is typical of many issued by military units following the end of World War II to commemorate their service. The collection includes several other examples: ID #1331, 50th AAA Brigade (1945); ID #2116, 69th Infantry Division (1945). Virtually all of these maps were issued either immediately after the end of the war or in connection with a later reunion of the unit. This map was printed on one side of an edition of the unit's newspaper, "Le Tomahawk," ID #2280.02. (The tomahawk was the symbol of the XIX Corps. See http://www.xixcorps.nl/XIX_Corps_Insignia.htm, accessed January 25, 2015.) The map and the newspaper text verso provide extensive detail about the unit's engagements, including its role in the Battle of Bulge, its liberation of the Langenstein concentration camp, and its joining with the Soviets at Wittenberg on April 30, 1945 (days before the German surrender), symbolized by an illustration of the two flags and troops shaking hands.
