( B.A.R. ) Marked “ AMMUNITION , CHEST , CAL 30 M1A1 “ this is the scarcer WW2 variation ,… made WITHOUT the internal dividers or felt padding Approximately 17” x 6” x 4” stamped & spot welded steel These were designed to hold fifteen magazines ( for a total of 300 rounds ) They were originally intended to be used in conjunction with the Phillips Pack Saddle in the 1930s, but ended up being used on jeeps and tanks during World War Two Nearly impossible to find today ! This box is in very good original condition with a strong original web carry handle Solid working latch and hinge no dents there are typical paint scratches and some scattered light patches of surface rust on the exterior of the can early WW2 B.A.R. magazine ammo chest perfect for WWII living history / reinactor events. These were initially designed for a short-lived US Army's M1922 "cavalry" program The chest would be attached to a saddle pack on a mule or horse for transport. While the cavalry program was soon deemed obsolete, the unique ammo boxes were a success , and continued to be produced on a limited basis into WWII Don’t pass it up - These are increasingly getting hard to find - A must have for advanced collectors of World War Two artifacts
