The New Mutants #1 (Marvel Comics March 1983)

Description: The new students at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters are socializing at the school along with dance instructor Stephanie Hunter when Danielle Moonstar accidentally projects a vision showing the traumatic deaths of Xuân Cao Mạnh's parents as her family fled Vietnam. Mạnh, furious at the display of her family's tragedy for all to see, lunges at Moonstar. After a brief scuffle, Hunter breaks up the fight and Dani wanders through the mansion to be alone, exploring the vacant rooms of the other residents of the mansion, the X-Men, who are off in space. [1]Charles Xavier calls the five new students to the Danger Room for their first training session. He tasks them each to cross the room to the exit. Samuel Guthrie, Rahne Sinclair, Roberto Da Costa, and Mạnh each attempt to cross, but are foiled by the Danger Room's obstacles. Moonstar, too afraid to make an attempt, flees from the mansion to the eastern end of the estate to be alone. Sinclair tracks Moonstar to check on her and invites her to join the group for a social outing, but she declines. Sinclair leaves Dani alone to join the rest of the team, as well as Hunter, for a drive into town. As they leave the estate, a pair of government agents, who are part of Project Wideawake, observe and report their movements to Henry Gyrich. Meanwhile, Moonstar returns to the Danger Room to attempt the training test on her own. At first, she is successful, but she is eventually zapped by a stunblast. She recovers on the Danger Room floor, however the safety settings have been disabled surreptitiously by Xavier.In London, Dr. Moira MacTaggert and Illyana Rasputina visit Israeli ambassador Gabrielle Haller at her residence. Haller asks Dr. MacTaggert to help her mutant child (David Haller), and she asks MacTaggert not to involve Xavier since he is the child's father.
