Most are from wool knitting mills in the Pacific Northwest or Southern California that are no longer around (due to global manufacturing and cheaper domestic manufacturing) and have gone out of business due to the cost of manufacturing these custom jackets. Stewart and Strauss manufactures its varsity letterman jackets in Arizona. Besides Delong, Holloway and TM Athletics/Meca they are part of the "Big Four" domestic manufacturers of letterman varsity jackets. Most wool looming mills have departed the U.S. for overseas looming. This jacket is in very good condition and has been well-maintained. It is a mens size LARGE which equates to a mens 40-42 numerical size chest. It features an 80% wool/20% nylon 24 ounce melton wool with acrylic rib-knit trim. The jacket is uninsulated and is lined with polyester satin. The wool melton body is navy blue. The sleeves are a basic white leather with a very subtle pebble-grain embossed finish which is rare among varsity jackets. Rib-knit trim matches the melton body color. What differentiates this letter jacket from most others is that it is a full zip-up closure not snaps. There was an additional charge from Stewart and Strauss for the high quality YKK zipper. The zipper is in flawless smooth running condition, This jacket is perfect for anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable outerwear option without mentioning its condition. If you are a high school athlete whose colors match the jacket this is also a great purchase. Varsity letters and graduation year is easily removed or added due to the zip-out liner which allows stitching to the wool melton and not the lining.
