Description: We are pleased to offer a lovely antique European silverplated platter dome. It is silverplate over copper and is unmarked as to maker. It has a handsome family crest of an open hand in a circle closed with a buckle and inscribed: Sit Dux Sapientia. The motto translates to "Wisdom be our guide" and the insignia is the Family Crest of the Woodroffe Family of Ireland. Information was found in the Fairbains Book of Crests (1905). It's a handsome piece with an applied ring of floral ornamentation around the entire piece. Condition: Very good - no silver wear or loss other than use scratches and some wear on the insignia itself. The ornamental ring has minor bends in a few places and the piece is missing its handle. Please review the photos and feel free to email any questions. Size: 9 3/4" x 13 3/4"; 5" tall.
