Description: This is a custom 1/6 scale, 12" figure commemorating one of the American heroes of WWI, Sergeant Alvin York. York was born in rural Tennessee on December 13th, 1887 and died September 2nd, 1964. York was one of eleven children who all helped support the family by working on the family farm, hunting, fishing, and also as laborers. York was a devout church goer (as well as the rest of the family) but drank alot and was prone to fist fighting. After an experience in 1914 York vowed to be a better, more religious person. When York was first drafted he claimed concientious objector status due to his religious beliefs. When he was persuaded that his religious beliefs and the army could coexist, York joined the 82nd infantry and went to France in 1918. Alvin York was one of the most decorated soldiers of WWI. at the time Corporal York (with 17 men)led an attack on a German machine gun nest. York's force captured 35 machine guns, killing 25 enemy soldiers. York and his men were so ferocious in battle that that the German commander surrended 132 men, believing they were fighting a vastly superior force. York was promoted to sergeant and awarded the Distinquished Service Cross. After an investigatin into the battle York's medal was upgraded to the Medal of Honor. Sgt. Alvin York was a very interesting historical figure. please note while this figure does not look exactly like Sgt. Alvin York there is a bit of a resemblance. This figure is designed mainly for display purposes for the WWI history buff. please note that this figure is fairly poseable and displays well.This would make a nice addition to any collection. sold as is.
