Description: Schwinn Vintage Homegrown Bass Boat Orange - Made in USA - Collectible 17" Do you believe in unicorns? We didn't until one coated in sparkly bass boat orange paint rolled into our humble shop. Schwinn might be known for affordable bikes from your local big-box store, but this is not one of those Schwinns. This, along with the Paramount, is one of the most famous made-in-the-USA high-end racing bikes from the legendary brand. While most of the Paramounts catered to the skinny tire ferrous needs of the road crowd, this one, crafted from lightweight aluminum into a sub-3-pound frame, was meant for those who head offroad. It was a big hit, and one that still gets a lot of plays and requests today, decades later. This frame was likely made by Annodizing Inc. in Colorado, and is dressed with some of the nicest components from that era, including Shimano XTR v-brakes, XT derailleurs and a Marzocchi Bomber Atom 80 fork. This bike has a pretty serious cult following. The paint is not perfect and has several spots of wear and chips. But perhaps you know of a good reliable paintshop. Schwinn Homegrown stickers are available on ebay. Some Homegrowns in less desirable colors have asking prices over $1000. Some good information about this model here: https://bonustomato.com/ This is a Schwinn 17", with a 22.4" effective top tube. We measured 36.5cm center-to-center on the seat tube, if that helps. Basically, you get low standover and a roomy top tube. The official size is 17” but the bike sizes more like a 15”. This should fit most riders in the 5’4” to 5’7” range. This bike features Shimano XT derailleurs (newer generation rear, original front), XT cranks, XTR V-brakes, LX hubs, XTR QR skewers, newer generation Shimano trigger shifters, Race Face headset, Easton CT2 Monkey Lite carbon riser bars, Syncros seatpost, Marzocchi Bomber Atom 80 fork and Panaracer Fire XC Pro 26x2.1” tires. The drivetrain is 3x8. (used, this beauty is in Good to Very Good overall for the age. There are several areas of paint chips, please see photos. Mechanically the bike is in tuned and upon proper re-assembly by a qualified mechanic, the bike should be ready to ride. Please see all photos for close-up details.) Bike will be professionally packed with care. By bidding on this item, Bidder acknowledges that Bicycle Exchange products are sold AS-IS with no warranty as to the usability or safety of the item.
