Description: We are delighted to offer for sale a superb!! and Rare hand made framed Mixed Media figure complete portrait of *El Ñáñigo* dancing in a Comparsa or Carnaval Circa 1980 having great colors and appeal done by Important Cuba born and probably the best Cuban Folklore Artist *Haydee Scull (1931-2007)*. This piece was bought directly from the Artist Haydee Scull. El Ñáñigo A spirit dancer in Afro-Cuba who acts as a guardian of ritual and a "spiritual messenger". In ceremonies, the ñáñigo uses different suits and objects to represent ancestors or mythological characters, performing sharp, angular, staccato movements that sometimes embody the utterances of the ekué drum. ***We were commissioned by a important Latin American Private Art Collector to sale his large collection of Art pieces in our Ebay Shop,please check our Shop to find other great and Rare Latin American & Cuba Art pieces.*** Biography: Twin sisters Haydée and Sahara Scull were born in Havana, Cuba, and studied painting and sculpture at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro in Havana. They are best known for their humorous three-dimensional paintings and sculptures of Old Havana and trendy South Beach. Haydée's son Michael, born in 1953, collaborated with his mother and aunt as a teenager. He left Cuba in 1967 to study art in Canada, and subsequently settled in Miami. In 1969 Haydée and her daughter Elizabeth (born 1957) joined Michael in Miami and in 1973 Sahara left Cuba for Miami. They established their permanent residence and studio in the art deco district of Miami Beach. Most of their work is commissioned for private collections. Haydée (died 2007) and Sahara (died 2008) Scull, known as the Scull Twins or the Scull sisters, were Cuban-Chinese folk-artists. Born in Cuba in the 1930s, the sisters created humorous three-dimensional paintings and sculptures of Old Havana and Florida, using paper mache, wire and acrylic paint.These now fetch high prices with collectors. Haydée immigrated to the United States in 1969 with her daughter, Elizabeth, joining her son Michael in Miami, Florida. Sahara immigrated to the United States in 1973, joining Haydée in Miami.The sisters were known for wearing matching, colorful, dresses and hats around the Miami art scene. They were referenced in a song entitled Scull Twins by Duncan Browne. Provenance: This piece had been in the same important Private Latin American Art Collection of a Florida Gentleman for decades.
