Description: Neat and rare vintage sports ball hand air pump. Used to inflate footballs, basketballs and soccer balls. Interesting that they chose to produce with a wood handle and top. The company is The General Tire & Rubber Company who in 1945 merged with the Pennsylvania Rubber Company. For decades, the Pennsylvania Rubber Company had been producing tennis balls. Most people are familiar with these popular tennis balls, still being produced today, branded as "Penn". There was a brief time, sometime between 1945-1955, when they expanded into making footballs and basketballs which made producing this type of pump relevant. But, once they got out of this market so went the pump. Hence, why these are rare. Good overall condition for a used air pump - many noticeable scratches and the wood at the top has an obvious chuck missing. Does have a nice rustic charm to it though. Unsure if it works as intended - untested. About 12" long.
