Description: OMEGA STUNNING GENUINE OMEGA GENEVE 1969 WATCH!!! Excellent Omega Calibre 601 in Absolutely Great Condition!! This is a classic beautiful stainless steel manual wind Omega Genève model with a silver-white dial. The watch was fully serviced just recently on 20th April 2024 and is keeping excellent time. Calibre 601 has been very successful for Omega and it is known for its reliability. There were over 300,000 built. It is also accurate and gives plenty of power reserve. This manual wind calibre created in 1962 has 17 jewels. It has been adjusted to two positions. Calibre 601 has been based on the very successful calibre 550 series. This movement is in glowing condition and has been very well looked after. Omega Watch Co Swiss” is signed on the plate. The Genève model was first launched in 1953 to pay homage to the Canton of Geneva. It became so successful that in 1970 this line of watches represented 60% of Omega’s production. Sadly, it was withdrawn in 1979 and is no longer produced. The watch measures 35mm without the crown and 40.5mm lug to lug. The caseback has reference No. 135.070. The first three digits stand for: 1 - Gent’s watch, 3 – Manual winding centre second, and 5 - Water Resistant. If we look very carefully, above the model reference, there is the tiny maker’s mark of a coded emblem of Samuel Graber SA, the firm that manufactured this case. In common with Rolex, IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre and its other close competitors, Omega was not a manufacturer of watch cases and instead purchased these from a small network of third part suppliers that specialised in this field. The original acrylic crystal features an Ω Omega logo in the middle of the glass. The expertly refinished silver-white dial has silver-black faceted reliefs as hour markers with the silver Omega ‘stick’ hands. The original crown is signed with the Omega logo. This watch will come in a new presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Brand new best quality black leather strap complements the look. Please study the pictures carefully as these are at great magnification and show all the flaws that second-hand watches always have. I don't enhance pictures so you can see the real watches with all the blemishes and imperfections. The photos are at great magnification and even tiny marks are visible - you will not be able to see those with a naked eye. You will be able to see the specks of dust even though I try my best to wipe these off. This piece doesn’t just tell the time – it tells the story. I hope it gets the treatment of being used daily as it deserves. We brought it back to nearly the same condition as it was when new and it feels like moving back in time by 55 years. This is just a hobby that I had for years. Now, even my teenage son has engaged and has helped with HTML and the layout of the listing - they say that once the father had Omega his son will not go for anything else but also Omega. The timeless piece! I am proud how this watch has been transformed back to its nearly original state - we never cheat (unlike others I have seen) to show the different model on the face of it even though this movement and the case has been used by Omega for a more prestigious models. We only use the original Omega watch parts for the replacements. Sometimes we have to wait for a long time before we find the replacement parts at the reasonable price. You can search Omega website and you will find the same model in the vintage watches section. It even has the picture remarkably similar to the ones you see here. Jeremy Clarkson once said that you don't really need five cars or five watches - on this occasion I tend to disagree. On watches, not cars. I have more than five watches and you can wear them on different occasions - unlike cars. No opinion on ownership of five cars - still working on it. Please do contact me if you need any other information. Like I said before, this is a hobby for me and I do have a day job which means I am not always responding to the messages straight away but I will do my best to come back to you as quickly as possible. I have bought a nice camera not long ago (photography is my new passion) and I am doing my best to catch the detailed pictures from all angles. Please study the pictures carefully as these form part of the description and show all the imperfections. Let me tell you a bit about the service we have given to this watch five weeks ago. The movement has been taken apart completely to the last little screws and tiny parts. The performance the movement will deteriorate over time if not cared for properly. The lubricants will dry up and lose their cohesiveness in time. All the parts are cleaned in special chemical solution that dissolves old lubricants, grime, dust or residue that is still left within the case and movement. This process normally takes just over 24 hours. After that, each little part is checked again for any blemishes and faults that can result in the movement not working at 100% correctly. If there are any parts to be replaced this is the time to identify that need. Once all the parts are checked, replaced and rechecked the process of reassembling can begin. There are different lubricants for the different parts and 'jewels' so the special care needs to be taken. It does take a while... Once everything is back together the electronic instruments are being used to set the timing of the movement to be perfect. The movement after service or any parts being replaced need the bedding in time of couple weeks and readjustment on the timing instrument. You can see that this is not something you can do yourself in five minutes. This specialist care is extremely important and this is what we do with every Omega watch we own. A lot of watches are advertised as waterproof or water resistant. As part of the service we do replace all the gaskets and all the care is taken to make the watches resistant to water. The truth is that in the old watches it is nearly impossible to achieve the 100% result. So, do not take a bath or shower wearing you old watch. There is always a risk that something can go wrong and the damage caused by water is the hardest to repair. This is why we never say our watches are waterproof. Please treat it as if they are not if you want the timeless Omega. Please note, I do offer seven day return if the watch is not to your liking or in any way faulty but please do not treat it like a catalogue service as we will have to charge you 20% re-listing fee and the returns postage is on you (unless you find the watch faulty but we don't list those). This watch has been worn proudly in the past. It shows you what sort of amazing engineering has gone into it if it can survive in a nearly workable state for so long. The truth is you need to service your watch at least every five years to make sure you prolong its life. We have a watchmaker that had been helping us with restoration for the past 20 years and he has been working with Omega watches for past 50 years - you can't get any more knowledge than that. He has now retired and helps only us while enjoying his retirement. He is not pushed to deliver to the deadlines and he takes his time to make it perfect. This is why we are not sellers of more than 6-8 watches a year. Good things take time and pride in doing them well. As it is a hobby we never thought about selling our watches but in time we realised that we actually can keep several and at the same time share the models that we have already with others. Please have a look at my past feedback, look at prices we have sold in the past, compare to the average ones of the same watches sell for and you will see that we sell not to make money. But it does help a bit if we make a pound or two on it:). At least we think we have done something worthwhile. We donate to Cancer Research every time we make a profit. On the personal note: This is really beautiful vintage Omega watch being one of the top Omega models ever available to the market. Dimensions: 35mm without the crown and 40.5mm lug to lug. Please see my other auctions coming soon for more great Omega watches. No reserve. Good luck with your bidding! SMALL PRINT I accept PayPal, UK cheques and Bank transfer. Please make sure you study the photos carefully. Every watch has been recently serviced. None of our watches have been pressure tested and cannot be treated as being waterproof.
