Description: This item comes from a smoke-free home and is in excellent, brand-new condition. Civil War era ENFIELD musket accoutrement referred to as a ‘tompion’. The cylindrical device has a brass top cap with an inner metal shank wrapped with cork. Device was utilized to plug the muzzle of the Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-muskets when the weapons were in transit or when they were not in use. NEW and unused and measures approximately 1¾” long x ½” in diameter. Top area has a bulb-type finger pull cap made out of nice, shiny brass. Will ONLY fit into the muzzle of the .58 caliber Enfield.
