Description: Tested and sounds excellent on my humble equipment. Please see pictures for cosmetic condition. Will ship carefully packaged by me, thank you. Nakamichi has gone into the cassette recording business and has just issued the first two dozen tapes in its new undertaking. Calling its new tapes the Reference Recording Series, Nakamichi has licensed recordings from some major audiophile disk manufacturers and duplicated them in real time on TDK metal tape, with each tape recorded while in its final shell, rather than recorded first and then wound into plastic shells. Nakamichi says its tapes have a flat frequency response of 20 to 20,000 hertz and a dynamic range of over 90 db. Each cassette is available either with Dolby B noise reduction (which is standard on most cassette decks) or Dolby C, the newer and improved system. Further, and of special interest to those with automatic-reverse decks, the tapes are designed so that there is little or no blank space at the end of each side. The tapes will be sold through Nakamichi's aquipment retailers. The initial release of the new series offers material from the Delos, Sheffield Lab, Telarc and Artist labels. The Delos tapes include several with Gerard Schwarz and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra - among them Handel's Water Music and Mozart's 40th and 41st Symphonies - and ''The World of the Harp,'' with Susan McDonald. Releases from the Sheffield label, a leader in sonic showpiece albums, include ''The King James Version,'' with Harry James. The selections from Telarc's catalogue of brilliantly recorded classics include a Schubert Eighth and Beethoven Eighth (on one tape), while Nakamichi has taken from the Artist label albums from John Kay and Steppenwolf and the Generation Band. An informal and strictly subjective A/B comparison of the Handel Water Music tape with a compact disk of the same performance proved startling for its lack of audible differences.
