Description: This Kurzweil K2000 VP is in perfect working condition. Has a few minor cosmetic issues with where there used to be a few stickers … probably something that could be improved with a gentle scrub with an old toothbrush. Note in one of the photos the middle C key is slightly raised, but it’s actually never affected the sound or playing ability. The 61‑key, five‑octave keyboard is clatter‑free and feels very smooth and responsive to the touch. On the rear panel are two main stereo mix sockets, plus more analog outputs in order to separate program material for external mixing. These sockets are connectec to 18‑bit D‑A converters for a clear, noise‑free signal. There are 2 footswitches and a control pedal, all assignable as controllers inside the VAST (Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology) synthesis engine. Also included are In/Out/Thru MIDI sockets and a SCSI port. The K2000VP has the SMDI (SCSI Musical Data Interchange) sample transfer format for vastly increased data transfer rates between compatible machines. The K2000VP's 8Mb of sample ROM contains a high‑quality collection of 16‑bit samples that still sound fantastic today. Includes a soundset of 200 Programs and 100 Setups but also there’s plenty of flexibility to load in or create your own! You can load user samples into thus synth up to 64Mb of RAM. The 2Mb of included sample RAM is expandable up to 64Mb with standard Macintosh‑type 30‑pin SIMMs. This synth will read Roland, Akai and Ensoniq library disks, and can also translate AIFF and WAV sample files — able to let you build a large sample library. All of your programs, keymaps and songs are in the K2000's 120K of P‑RAM, though this can be expanded by a memory upgrade to 760K. P‑RAM is battery‑backed (three AA batteries in a door underneath the keyboard). You can use up to eight drum channels with the P‑RAM upgrade, I believe at some point during my 28 year relationship with this keyboard, I did upgrade the PR but I honestly can’t remember. Consider it a freebie bonus if that is the case. And let me tell you a little bit about the 32 track sequencer. Typical functions of a software sequencer are included, such as cutting, copying, quantising and bouncing. There is also an event list editor. Parts of sequences may be assigned to play back when triggered from the keyboard, and even using the key's pitch and velocity can be imposed onto the sequence, while excluding drum and percussion tracks from being transposed. I used to use this sequencer on stage all the time with my band in past years. Finally, a little bit about the effects you can apply to different sounds…effects are excellent, includes standard EQ, modulation, delay and reverb, even reverse reverb. Up to four effects can be used at once. I’m emotional writing all of this up, because this was a fantastic friend to me throughout the years, both for composing music at home and for use at live shows. But I do all of my composing now using a daw like Logic. And I recently invested in the Nord electro six, because I wanted the feel of keys that felt more like a real piano. I’m a little sad, letting go of this keyboard, but I simply don’t have room for both the Nord and the Kurzweil. And honestly, I wanted a lighter keyboard to take around to shows with me. This keyboard is not just a fantastic collectors item for people who love vintage synths… It’s in fully working order and provides a lot of functionality and flexibility that would delight anyone who wants a lot of tools at their fingertips for loading in samples, sequencing, effects, etc..
