Description: Heinie Hartwig Landscape Oil Painting Listed California Artist Large Size Description and Item Information Up for sale is this large, beautifully framed, original Heinie Hartwig oil on board painting. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This charming landscape painting was executed in a realistic style. A dirt road cuts across the landscape, past trees and a body of water, en route to a large home with a red roof. The sight area is approximately 19 1/4 inches by 29 1/4 inches (the board is slightly larger). The artwork is nicely framed in a high quality, gold-finished frame. The exterior frame measurements are about 25 1/2 inches by 35 1/2 inches. Unpacked, this heavy piece weighs 11 pounds 6.7 ounces. It would be a fantastic addition to a collection of American fine art. Identification This painting is by the listed California artist, Heinie Hartwig (1937-). The age of this piece is not known, and it may be vintage. Affixed to the lower center of the frame is a brass plaque on which are the title and the artist's name, "The Way it Was Heinie Hartwig." Verso, there are labels from a San Francisco frame shop. Per askART, Hartwig grew up in the Santa Clara Valley of California. He spent time in Europe while in the Army, and he was in Germany when the Berlin Wall was erected. He convinced his wife, Eva, to leave East Germany, and they settled in northern California. Hartwig worked in construction. He also ran marathons, holding the record for long distance running in northern California in 1964. He started painting in 1970; at first, he only painted during the evenings, teaching himself by studying the Old Masters. He later quit his job to become a full time artist. He was listed in "Who's Who in American Art" in 1991. Hartwig is primarily known for western landscapes; his works have been compared to those by Albert Bierstadt and John Constable. Condition This piece looks great overall, as shown. The painting has no damage. The frame has light wear, with a few tiny chips. The back side is as shown. In my opinion, this piece is ready to hang and enjoy. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying. Terms of Sale 1.
