Description: Woman's queen size hand crocheted "Hug-Me-Tight" Sontag Vest hand crocheted of easy care, cream colored wool-look acrylic yarn. This is a new, unworn item.The vest is sized queen to fit most adult women who wear size1XL-3XL. The side ties allow for adjustment to a range of sizes. It buttons down the front with four large brass colored antique metal buttons. The 7/8" buttons are gold colored metal with a pierced design of have a raised center design of a small square surrounded with tony swirls, rows of bead or rope like designs framing a row of larger swirls. Tasseled ties at the sides of the hug-me-tight can be adjusted for a flattering fit. The garment is V-shaped front and back. It is crocheted in flattering raised diagonal rows and it has a pretty scalloped edging around the neck and outside edges which flare over the shoulder area. The arm openings are large enough to accommodate the fullest of sleeves. The bottom V creates a pleasing look over a hooped skirt. It measures approximately 30" from the top back of the V-necked edge to the bottom edge. The waist can be tightened down to about 50" and can be expanded by loosening the side ties. Due to the nature of crochet work it is quite stretchy for ease and comfort of fit. The yarn is warm and comfortable and hand-washable or machine washable, gentle with cool water. Air dry, flat, block to original shape. During much of the 1800's and into the early 1900's many styles of crocheted and knitted vests were featured in fashion magazines. Known by many names such as Sontag, spencer, habit shirt, crossover shawl, bosom friend, heart warmer and hug me tight. All refer to a garment that is worn on the upper body. Many were of the wrap around style known as Sontags, but several styles featured buttons down the front. The hug me tight is a wonderful, attractive garment which is also very functional. The upper body is kept warm while the arms are left free.
