Description: Discocactus araneispinus for sale here. Plant is in 4 inch pots with cephalium and a single, short round stem that is near 3 inch in diameter and around 4 inch high. D. araneispinus is one of the dwarf and more elegant Brazilian species rarely getting up to 5 inch before maturing and forming a cephalium, (the curious bristly head of the plant, which is a specialized structure in which the flowers and fruits are borne and protected.). White buds of flowers sprout from top of the cephalium, providing additional color to the plant.The bodies of the plants are small, shaped like a sphere that has been squashed from above, or hemispherical, grey-green and glaucous, up to 6 inch high and in diameter. Spines at first red, black or yellowish passing to grey with the exception of the darker tips. Cephalium fairly short, to 2-3 inch high and up to 3 inch in diameter, with fine, cream-colored wool, which caps the vegetative part of the stem.
