Description: This is the second volume of Oswald Spengler's study on the morphology of civilization. Spengler called his book a Copernican Overturning of the collapse of society which rejected the Eurocentric view, dividing history into an ancient medieval-modern pattern. Spengler believed that history consists of not epochs but entire cultures which evolve like organisms. According to him, the terms "culture" and "civilization" were not standardized and he describes cultures as having lifespans of about a thousand years of flourishing, and a thousand years of decline. To Spengler, the natural lifespan of these groupings was to start as a "race"; become a "culture" as it flourished and produced new insights; and then become civilization. Fascinating reading in the original German and it is not written in the usual Fraktur or old German, so it is easier to read for westerners. Priced to sell.
