Francois de Chastellux (1734-1788) was Fremnch general who fought for the Colonial Army during the Revolutionary War, serving as the chief liasion officer between French forces and George Washington. He wrote this account of the new Republic based on his observations during the war. Originally published in French in 1786, this is the first printing of the English translation.
