Here we have an 8 x 12 photo showing an Avenger air defense system deployed with Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade during Operation Desert Shield. The Avenger consisted of a four-tube Stinger anti-aircraft missile launcher mounted on each side of an operator's station on a pedestal carried by an M-998 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). A .50-caliber machine gun could also be mounted beneath the right side Stinger launcher.
