Description: According to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History: This harmonica was made by M. Hohner in Germany, after 1937. It is a Chromonika III No. 870 model in the key of C, with 16 single holes and 64 reeds. This harmonica has a metal and brown wooden comb with metal cover plates attached to the top and bottom with screws, and a metal button tipped slide. Accessioned with original bird’s-eye maple case with yellow-orange lining. The harmonica is engraved:CHROMATISCHE MUNDHARMONIKACHROMONIKA IIIM.HOHNERThis harmonica is in good shape with some finish wearing off of the chrome. The lever works when pressed but I have not tried to play it. I am not the least bit musical and wouldn't want to scare the neighbors. It is a really cool vintage item and just looks nice sitting on the desk although I would love to hear it played. A great deal for a piece of music history.
