Description: This is a circular array of four one-half (1/2) wave loops ADS-B antenna in a cylindrical enclosure with a sturdy magnetic base for mounting on the steel roof or a car or truck. The antenna is secured inside the enclosure to not move or strike the enclosure walls. It's designed to receive 1090 MHz (+/- 5.0Mhz) signals but will receive other ADS-B frequencies (e.g. 978MHz). Nominal gain is 5.86 dBi. The purpose of this antenna is to receive ADS-B signals from high-altitude balloons, and other aircraft, that will likely be directly overhead or nearly so. Ideal signal direction for reception is 15+ degrees above the horizontal plane. The antenna is copper wire. The enclosure is fabricated via fused deposition modeling with PETG which is a high-temperature plastic that has a high resistance to UV light and weather. Dimensions: 7.3 cm (2.87") tall (total height), 12.8 cm (5.04") wide at the base. Attached to the antenna is a 15-foot RG58 cable with a male SMA connector. I've included pictures of screenshots of the antenna performance attached to my phone via a software-defined-radio dongle using Dump1090 and far field patterns simulated on 4nec2. The magnetic mount is solid. It will not move easily after securely placed on the steel roof of a car or truck. Make sure to clean the surface you are mounting on prior to installing. PLEASE Use care when placing it on or removing it from the roof of your vehicle. The magnet is STRONG. There is a fused deposition modeling fabricated TPU rubber boot on the base to help protect your paintjob. Please see pictures for more information.
