Description: Presented here is a 1978 Vintage Timex Viscount Automatic 48861 10978 Great Britain Case Men’s Watch This collectible Timex Viscount watch (often misrepresented as a Marlin) pairs the purity, precision and pleasure of an automatic self-winding mechanical movement with the timeless sophistication of a sleek design. This watch features a sleek 37 mm gold plated case that was made in Great Britain. It houses a simple yet elegant silver dial with applied baton hour markers and gold/black hands. Day and Date are displayed at the 3 position. The day & date are NOT quickset. The dial is signed TIMEX – AUTOMATIC – WATER RESISTANT 48861 10978. The last two digits indicate the 1978 production year. Inner case back is signed CASE GREAT BRITAIN. It has a domed crystal with a crack behind the 11/12 markers. The timepiece is powered by a Timex M109 Self Winding Mechanical movement. The watch is fitted with an aftermarket dark brown alligator print calf leather watch band that complements the watch well. For a watch that is over 45 years old, it is in great shape. The case appears in excellent shape but on magnification, light plating loss can be seen at the edges and a few micro dings. Dial is very clean with lettering intact. Crystal does have scratches and has a visible crack behind the 11/12 markers (see last pic with this highlighted). Crown is clean with no visible plating loss. The movement is very clean, winds well with a few shakes and keeps reasonably good time for vintage mechanical watch. Service history is unknown. Watch band appears like new / recently changed and complements the watch well. I have included several pictures of the watch, case & movement. Please refer to them for condition and details as they are part of the description. All pictures have been taken on the macro setting to show detail. This makes even the slightest imperfections, shadows during photography, and specks of dust appear much more prominent even though they are often not visible without magnification. Make this classic timepiece yours today. It is not common to find these in this cosmetic and working condition. It will make an admirable addition to any vintage watch collection.
