Until 1715 it was called Alte Münzgasse because the mint buildings once stood there. SCHLOSSPLATZ Created under Duke Karl Eugen in 1782 when he was expecting a visit from the Grand Elector Paul von Rufland. The current layout was designed by the writer Hackländer and the architect Leins, 1361. STATE THEATER - LARGE HOUSE Built by Prof. Littman 1907-1912. The sculptures around the theater lake are by the sculptor Hofer and are based on ancient models. The nymph group is by Dannecker. NIGHT WATCHMAN FOUNTAIN It stands on Leonhardsplatz and was created by Fremd and Helmführer, it was erected around 1900. On the left in the picture is St. Leonhard's Church. Built by Alberlin Jorg, 1470-1474. In front of the choir of the church is a replica of the Kreuzberg created by master Hans Seyffer from Heilbronn. The original was in the hospital church because of the risk of weathering. BELL TOWER The last remaining remnant of the former city fortifications. It stands in the weavers' penitentiary near the English church. Built under Duke Christoph during the expansion and renovation of the city wall in 1564 as a castle cellar tower. After the demolition of a neighboring tower, the Bell Tower, in 1811, it was given its name. The so-called bell workers, who were sentenced to public work and wore bells on their clothes, were kept in the Bell Tower. COLLEGE CHURCH AND COLLEGE FRUIT BOX College Church: Along with the castle and the stone houses, it is one of the oldest buildings in Stuttgart. There is evidence that a small, middle Romanesque village church stood on its site in the second half of the 12th century, and a late Romanesque basilica in the second quarter of the 13th century. The early Gothic choir of the collegiate church was built between 1327 and 1347. In 1436, construction of the late Gothic hall church began under Ulrich the Much-Beloved, which was completed in 1495. The master builder was Alberlin Jörg. The small tower was completed in 1488, and the large tower was completed in 1531. Collegiate fruit box: mentioned as early as 1393. When the present Schillerplatz was built as the old Schlobplatz in 1598, part of it was demolished and the master builder Heinrich Schickhardt added the gable in German Renaissance style. The Schiller monument by Thorwaldsen was erected on Schillerplatz in 1839. TOWN HALL Built by Jassoy and Vollmer 1898-1904. The new building had to be large part of Stuttgart's old town had to give way. NEW PALACE Foundation stone laid in 1746 under Duke Karl Eugen, completed in 1791. The architects were Retti, de la Guêpière and Reinhard Ferd. Fischer. Thouret completed the interior work. He was also the designer of the Stuttgart park. The deer and lion on the portal were by Jsopi and were erected in 1819. KONIGSTRASSE Under King Friedrich, 1797 - 1816, the ring of walls around Stuttgart, which had previously hindered the expansion of the city, fell. The Great Ditch along the former northern wall of the inner city was converted into the Königstrafe, and the Marstall and St. Eberhard's Church were moved from the Solitude to the Königtrafse. OLD LANDSCAPE On the corner of Linden and Kronprinzstrasse stood the "Old Landscape", the former state parliament building. Built under Duke Ludwig in 1580-1583 according to the plans of the master builder Jakob Salzmann, the building was altered in 1745 in the Rococo style, provided with a portal and decorated with frescoes on three sides. Next to it stood the high-gabled New Landscape House from 1658. Between the two houses, the beautiful Rococo portal of the Legion barracks was built in 1906. MARKET SQUARE First mentioned around 1290. In 1450, the market square was about a third of its current size. Ulrich the Much-Beloved had it expanded by demolishing houses he had bought, and he also had the manor house, which was demolished in 1820, built. The former Lotter house, later Haufler house, was the most beautiful of the market square houses with its three pointed bay windows. It was the oldest The count's town hall and also the oldest department store in Stuttgart. It was built on a basement floor built around 1400 in 1614 by master builder Heinrich Schickhardt. OLD CASTLE - COURTYARD The most famous building in old Stuttgart. The old moated castle was redesigned in 1553 and 1570 by the ducal master builder Tretsch under Duke Christoph. The old castle courtyard was surrounded by its magnificent Renaissance arcades. The round towers were built later, the one to the west in 1572, the east in 1578 and the south in 1687. A large part of the castle burned down in the fire in 1931, but was rebuilt and used for new purposes. The equestrian statue of Count Ebertard in his beard was created by the sculptor Hofer.
