D. 986, to the Period when the Colonies Declared their Independence, A. D. 1776Author: Charles W. Elliott Binding: Fine Cloth Binding Publisher: Charles Scribner, New YorkPublication Date: 1857 Edition: First Edition Volumes: Complete in two volumes Condition: Good ITEM DESCRIPTION Today we are pleased to offer this nicely preserved two volume set by Charles W. Elliott! A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique first edition set is over 166 years old! Complete in two volumes; first edition. Ex-library. Original publisher cloth bindings are in great shape overall! Tight, sturdy and square! Both volumes show library plates pasted to their respective front boards, as well as library catalog stickers pasted to their spines. Title lettering remains uncovered and can be read from the shelf. Bindings show some soiling and rubbing to the boards and spines, as well as some fading to the spines, general wear around the extremities including light bumping to the corners and some chipping to the spine extremes, particularly to Volume II. The page edges also show some soiling, but otherwise these volumes are well preserved and attractive additions to any fine collection! Internally, these volumes are in great shape as well. Front and rear boards on both volumes are firmly attached to their bindings and all page groupings are secure. These are ex-library volumes with bookplates visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly-pages, as well as the title page and copyright page. Otherwise clean and free from signatures and inscriptions. The text blocks themselves are in very good condition and remain perfectly readable throughout. There is some typical age-related toning to the pages, but overall they are crisp, clean and white. There is some foxing scattered throughout both volumes, and some light corner creasing in spots, particularly in Volume II, but otherwise these volumes are in fantastic shape! Illustrated with frontispiece portraits. Make sure to see the additional photos below for a look at the contents pages. Volume I is 479 pages; Volume II is 492 pages. Both volumes measure approximately 9 1/4 inches tall by 6 1/4 inches wide by 1 3/4 inches thick; both volumes together will require approximately 3 3/4 inches of shelf space.
