Description: Interesting piece of Warren County (Bowling Green) Kentucky history A testimonial bond, DEACON ARMSTEAD DODSON AND HUGH HAGAN (apparently a member of local government) giving Hagan the power to perform marriagesThe sum of 500 british pounds? is in the statement, a bond of some sort?, not sure....7 1/2 x 6, in very good overall condition, short tear on one of the foldsaccording to the info below Armstead purchased 200 acres in 1813 in Trammel's Falls Warren county so he was probably active in the local church or government in 1814 before he moved Armstead was the son of Charles & Lucy (Morgan) Dodson. He married Nancy Creel in Warren Co, KY on September 25, 1804. Their children were:Lucy Dodson 1805–Joshua Dodson 1807–1823Charles Arstead Dodson 1809–1870Thomas C Dodson 1811–1811Joel Dodson 1813–1880Greenham Dodson 1815–1889Elizabeth Dodson 1817–Dillingham Dodson 1820–1909Elisha Dodson 1822–Armstead Morgan Dodson 1825–1871----- Armstead & Nancy left Allen Co, KY, about 1812 & went to Madison Co, AL. Brother Armstead & Sister Nancy Dodson were received by letter into the fellowship of Enon Baptist church on Saturday, June 1, 1812. In 1813 he bought 200 acres on Trammel's Fork in Warren Co, KY, & in 1815 bought land in Bedford Co, TN. Armstead is shown in the 1830 Jasper Co. GA census with nine in the family, and five slaves. In 1839 he is listed as a trustee of Pettit's Creek Baptist Church west of Cartersville, Bartow Co, GA. They were living in Cass, Bartow Co, GA, when Nancy died on August 7, 1840. Around 1841 or 1842, Armstead left Cass, Bartow Co, GA and moved to DeSota Co, MS. He married a widow, Abagail N. (Duty) Walden, in September 1843. Armstead & Abagail's children were:Lewis Dodson 1845–Adelia Dodson 1849– After a few years they moved to Marshall Co, MS and then shortly before his death to Collierville, Shelby Co, TN. He died on July 9, 1873, & is buried in Tabernacle Cemetery near Collierville. His tombstone indicates that he was a member of the Baptist Church for 70 years, a Deacon for 60 years and a Clerk of the church for 50 years. in very good overall conditionA welcome addition to a collection THANKS FOR LOOKING!!
