A scarce early Philadelphia imprint, comprising what is claimed as the poetical works of Ossian, an ancient Scottish poet that Macpherson supposedly collected through word of mouth in Scottish Gaelic prior to the 1760s. Contemporary historians now overwhelmingly view the story as a fabrication, with minor influence from traditional Gaelic poetry.
